P.E.I. Energy Corp. has started work on a wind farm in Hermanville, reports CBC News.
The wind farm will have 10 new turbines generating 30 megawatts (MW) and should be in full operation by November.
“We have two of the pads of the 10 turbine towers poured,” Energy Minister Wes Sheridan said. “The towers will start to arrive on site at the end of August and the erection of the towers will begin in September and the turbines and blades will start to arrive in October.”
The local community will receive $125,000 a year in fees for the turbines. Landowners will also get payments totaling about $225,000 a year.
