The newly-built Riverview East School was officially opened on January 20.
The 110,074-square-foot school was designed and constructed in accordance with the provincial Green Building Policy through a total investment of $21 million.
The investment includes a contribution of $80,000 toward the construction of a barrier-free, wheelchair-accessible playground.
The opening ceremony was attended by Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Marie-Claude Blais, Economic Development Minister Bruce Fitch and local officials.
Accommodating about 650 students from kindergarten to Grade 8, the school features 27 kindergarten and general teaching classrooms; multi-function classrooms; a performing arts classroom; dedicated music, art and science classrooms; a middle school technology education classroom; project work areas; resource and special care spaces; two gyms; a library/seminar room; a shared stage that allows viewing of performances from either the gym or cafeteria; and administration and personnel spaces.
