Fredericton, New Brunswick-based Caldwell and Ross Ltd.has received a $12.6-million contract from the Nova Scotia government to build a new bridge in Cape Breton, reports The Canadian Press.
Caldwell and Ross is expected to complete work on the two-lane bridge on Keltic Drive in Sydney River by December 2014.
The new bridge will have two 3.5-metre driving lanes, two 1.5-metre shoulders and a four-metre-wide active transportation lane, Cape Breton Post reported.
The bridge will also include a four-metre-wide lane for pedestrians and cyclists.
Work to demolish the existing bridge is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
