Woodlawn United Church has begun construction on the first phase of a $1.8 million expansion project, reports Halifax NewsNet.
“The new 7,000-square-foot building (in Halifax, Nova Scotia) will bring accessibility to everyone,” said Ralph Sams, chairman of the accessibility project. “It is long overdue.”
The fundraising started with a donation from the estate of Charles Keating in the amount of $100,000. From there, through chowder luncheons, yard sales, concerts and plain old soliciting for donations, the committee has raised nearly $1.3 million toward the project.
The project is expected to be completed in October.
