The next phase in creating a multimillion-dollar urban village near Wrights Cove in Dartmouth will begin in the spring, reports The Chronicle Herald.

Harbour Isle Halifax Inc. will construct Magazine Landing, a three-phase commercial development between Windmill Road and Marketplace Drive. The first building will be a 27,000-square-foot facility that will include 11,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, with the remaining two floors devoted to office tenants, the newspaper reports.

Work on finishing the Hazelton, a 12-storey, 89-unit residential tower off Windmill Road, will be completed at about the same time the commercial development ramps up.

The Harbour Isle development, designed by Iredale Group Architecture of Vancouver, has proceeded in fits and starts over the years. In a previous incarnation, it was known as Sheppards Island condominiums.

Genivar Inc. has submitted an application to the municipality on Harbour Isle’s behalf for a development agreement to move forward with the next portion of the residential component. That includes two 16-storey towers, one for apartments and one for condominiums, for a total of 209 units, including 49 townhouse units that will surround them.

The maximum allowable height on that site is 16 storeys.

A public information meeting on the application for the two 16-storey buildings will be held on December 11.
