Construction continues on a 200-bed Northeast Nova Scotia Correctional Facilityin Pictou County, reports The Chronicle Herald.
The facility, located in Priestville, is expected to be ready next fall. Work is on budget and on schedule, the newspaper reports.
According to Chad Lucas, a provincial Justice Department spokesman, the price tag of $38.5 million remains in sight.
The new jail will have 100 cells and with its opening, smaller sites in Cumberland County and Antigonish will be closed.
The jail is expected to employ about 112 people.
